Your school's record
Everything in this page comes from one rule: your school’s record says what happened, not what would be true if it had happened today.
Who changed this, and when
Section titled “Who changed this, and when”Every change to your school’s records carries the person who made it. Where somebody acted on a colleague’s behalf, it carries both – who did it, and who it was done for.
You do not switch this on and cannot switch it off. The question a school needs to be able to answer about any record is who changed this, and when, and an audit trail that can be turned off does not answer it.
The one thing this does not cover is Ten Points’ own working state: a job’s account of its own progress is not your record and is not audited as though it were.
Nothing is deleted, and there is no bin
Section titled “Nothing is deleted, and there is no bin”There are no soft deletes in Ten Points. A row is present, closed by a date range, or genuinely gone. There is no hidden “deleted” flag and therefore no recycle bin to check.
In practice that means:
- An award is corrected by a row beside it, never edited away
- A class membership is closed, never overwritten
- An archived child is a status, not a deletion – and is reversible
What a total counts
Section titled “What a total counts”Every figure in Ten Points is worked out from the rows behind it when you ask for it, rather than kept as a running count somebody has to remember to update. A correction moves the total immediately.
There is one thing to know about this if you are using figures as evidence. A total is a read, and it counts only the rows the reader is allowed to read. Two people can legitimately see two different numbers for the same question, because one of them may see a year group and the other the school. If you are putting a figure in a document, be clear about whose view it came from.
Evidence for an inspection
Section titled “Evidence for an inspection”The useful things you can show are recognition and wellbeing over time: what was recognised, against which of your values, by whom, and how that moves across a year.
Two cautions, both of which come up:
Reports use when it happened. An award made offline on a trip belongs to the day of the trip, not the day it reached us. That is what you want, and it means a report run twice can differ if a queue arrived in between.
A small group is not anonymous. A total over a category containing one child names that child, however the column is labelled. Be careful with year-group breakdowns in a small school.
Asking us to erase a child
Section titled “Asking us to erase a child”You ask from the child’s own screen – it is the one place a particular child has already been chosen, so there is no risk of erasing the wrong one from a list.
Nobody at the school carries it out. The request comes to us and we execute it. That separation is the point: an erasure is the one thing in this product that genuinely destroys something, and it should not be reachable by one person having a bad day with the wrong permissions.
Tell the family it is not instant, and tell us if there is a deadline you have been given.
Switching a module off
Section titled “Switching a module off”Admin → Settings → Modules. Switching something off stops it being used; it does not remove what was already recorded in it. If you are switching something off in order to make data go away, that is an erasure question rather than a settings one, and the answer is above.
